On Sunday we celebrate The Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). This celebration is of particular poignancy at this time when the faithful are unable to gather to celebrate the Mass and receive Holy Communion.
Of course our faith is undimmed and we may make an Act of Spiritual Communion.
The wonderful hymn Soul of my Saviour speaks to us especially on this day. They say ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’ and this is particularly true for us as we yearn to receive the Lord into our hearts in the special way He has given to us. So let us pray:
Soul of Christ sanctify me
Body of Christ save me
Blood of Christ inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ strengthen me
O good Jesus hear me
Within Your wounds hide me
Suffer me not to be separated from You
From the malicious enemy defend me
In the hour of my death call me
And bid me come to You
That with Your saints I may praise You
For ever and ever. Amen
