This week we celebrate the Glorious Ascension of our dear Lord, Jesus Christ. We are still in the Easter Season, so our prayers include thanksgiving that Christ our Saviour has overcome death to give us joy, and has risen to lift us to the heights. On Ascension Day we see Christ in a new light, seated at the right hand of the Father.
We pray that as Christ has ascended into heaven, we may be there with Him in our minds and hearts. These prayers emerge from our firm faith that our Lord Jesus truly is our Lord and God, who loves us and wishes us to draw ever closer to Him. This faith of ours must have a practical expression.
It is difficult for us in lockdown to proclaim our resurrection joy and faith to others, but we can keep the flame of faith alive within ourselves during this pandemic as in deep trust we address this beautiful prayer from the Divine Office to Jesus: ‘Eternal priest, minister of the new covenant, you are alive and interceding for us; save your people who turn to you in prayer.’
